Tuya Smart has integrated the latest large model from Mistral AI into its Cloud Developer Platform to boost hardware development.
Tuya aims to harness the impressive speed, open-source framework, and advanced capabilities of Mistral AI’s model to empower developers while catering to Europe’s stringent requirements around data security and regulatory compliance.
Le Chat, a chatbot by Mistral AI, became a talking point this month after claiming the top spot on France’s free app charts after its debut. This achievement not only disrupted the chatbot landscape but also solidified Mistral AI as a key player.
The app’s technical benchmarks have quickly drawn attention from both users and developers. By processing 1,100 tokens per second (approximately 1,000 words), Le Chat is 13 times faster than ChatGPT, OpenAI’s flagship model. Adding to its arsenal, Le Chat boasts advanced image-generation capabilities that outpace DALL·E.
The unveiling of the latest version of Le Chat during the AI Action Summit this week served as a rallying moment for European AI, putting the continent firmly on the global stage as a serious challenger in the AI race.
Delivering smarter hardware with Mistral AI
Tuya has cultivated deep partnerships with renowned European businesses like Schneider, Danfoss, Hama, and Calex to foster a smart hardware ecosystem aimed at revolutionising how consumers experience connected technologies.
By incorporating Mistral AI into its cloud platform, Tuya is addressing two critical challenges in the European AI domain: data security and the growing demand for innovative AI hardware solutions.
Data security, in particular, remains a top priority across Europe. As Tuya highlights, 73% of European consumers reject AI applications that involve cross-border data transmission, according to recent McKinsey reports.
Public concerns around privacy were formally addressed when the EU passed the world’s most comprehensive AI legislation, introducing stringent requirements for deployments. With these regulations in mind, Tuya prioritises full compliance with frameworks such as the EU AI Act.
The integration of Mistral AI’s technology ensures that data collected, stored, and processed remains localised within European boundaries. This closed-loop approach is designed to meet Europe’s exacting security standards, enabling businesses to pursue AI initiatives without jeopardising compliance or user trust.
Overcoming AI hardware development challenges
The demand for AI hardware that solves real-world challenges is growing across Europe. Reports from the European Commission estimate that the region’s AI hardware market expanded by 217% year-on-year in 2024.
Despite the sharp rise, many of Europe’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have struggled to keep pace. High development costs and complex integration processes have created significant hurdles, leaving a gap between market expectations and delivery.
Tuya aims to bridge this divide by providing streamlined and cost-effective solutions for developers through its T-series modules and AI hardware development platform. These technologies allow businesses to swiftly deploy AI capabilities in hardware, reducing time-to-market and operational burdens.
Tuya says its ecosystem has already attracted over 1.26 million developers, supporting more than 2,800 smart product categories.
Expanding the AI ecosystem
The Tuya Cloud Developer Platform already boasts integrations with several leading AI models such as OpenAI’s GPT series, Google DeepMind’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and emerging players like DeepSeek and Nova.
Through a unified SDK, Tuya offers developers the ability to integrate audio, video, image, and text processing functionality into their solutions. This approach reduces the barriers to entry for creating multi-model AI applications, allowing European developers to craft unique solutions tailored to their needs.

The decision to integrate Mistral AI’s model is not merely a technological advancement but reflects Europe’s evolving AI landscape. In many ways, this collaboration is emblematic of Tuya’s vision to align with Europe’s priorities—whether through data localisation, an open ecosystem, or solutions tailored to local hardware needs.
Tuya is betting big on the continued demand for AI hardware amid Europe’s stricter regulatory environment, believing it can strike a balance between compliance and innovation.
