AT&T and Cisco are partnering up to boost the performance of IoT applications with dedicated 5G network capabilities.
The sub-6GHz 5G network from AT&T already covers more than 251 million people and provides industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and entertainment with low latency and high bandwidth for cutting-edge applications.
AT&T’s Control Center is powered by Cisco and gives businesses near real-time updates of IoT devices on their network. Anomalies can be quickly identified to mitigate security threats.
Masum Mir, VP and GM of Cable, Mobility, and IoT at Cisco, said:
“5G will empower businesses across all industries to digitize faster and reshape business models.
Together with AT&T we are marking a milestone for AT&T Control Center customers to harness the power of 5G to connect industrial and business-critical devices for ultimate IoT visibility.”
The partners already manage millions of connected devices across the US. The addition of 5G will help millions more IoT devices come online and bring about smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and more efficient production.
William Stovall, VP of Mobility, IoT, and 5G at AT&T, commented:
“Working with Cisco, we continue to help businesses deploy IoT devices and applications faster and more securely and get more value out of devices they use.
This is an important first step toward the IoT massive connectivity that will eventually create opportunities for enterprises to realise the full potential of IoT.”
