Edison Smart are actively looking to hire an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join our clients growing team in Atlanta GA
As an Electrical Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in validating the performance, safety, and reliability of electrical infrastructure for large-scale data centers and critical facilities. This position requires hands-on testing, documentation, and collaboration with project stakeholders to ensure systems perform as designed before they go live.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform commissioning of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems including switchgear, UPS, generators, PDUs, transformers, ATS/STS, and power monitoring systems.
- Execute and review commissioning scripts, functional tests, and integrated system testing (IST).
- Develop and maintain commissioning documentation, including MOPs, SOPs, checklists, and reports.
- Identify and resolve issues related to design, installation, or equipment operation during pre-functional and functional testing phases.
- Collaborate with design teams, contractors, vendors, and facility operators to ensure project goals are met.
- Provide technical guidance and support throughout the commissioning process from design review through system turnover.
- Participate in commissioning meetings, factory witness testing, and final project closeout documentation.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in electrical system commissioning, testing, or startup, with at least 2 years focused on mission-critical environments (data centers preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, emergency power systems, and industry testing standards (e.g., NETA, IEEE, NFPA 70E).
- Experience working with power analysis tools, test equipment (megger, hi-pot, IR cameras), and protective relay testing.
- Ability to read and interpret one-lines, riser diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered.
- NETA, NICET, or PE certification a plus but not required.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
