Project Engineer – Critical Facilities (Building Automation & Energy Systems)
Location: Reno, NV / San Jose, CA
Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 (based on experience and tenure)
Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt
Travel: Local travel required up to 50% (mileage reimbursed)
Are you an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, optimizing system performance, and contributing to sustainable, high-impact infrastructure projects? We’re seeking a Project Engineer to join our Critical Facilities team, where you’ll play a key role in designing and engineering Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) for mission-critical environments.
What You’ll Do
- Design and engineer building automation systems in alignment with project specifications, sustainability initiatives, and local energy codes.
- Analyze complete system and campus-level performance to ensure project documentation and technical accuracy.
- Create customized programming solutions that improve building energy efficiency.
- Develop intuitive user interfaces for system end-users.
- Program complex Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to meet mechanical and control system requirements.
- Collaborate directly with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project stakeholders.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and provide feedback on technical standards.
- Gain exposure to project financial tracking through monthly audits and end-of-project reviews.

Your Background Might Include
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or other related fields).
- Familiarity with electronics and basic electrical circuit theory.
- Experience with mechanical systems and building control applications.
- Understanding of DDC theory and control strategies.
- Exposure to programming concepts or scripting languages.
Additional Role Details
- Position involves both office-based work and regular site visits (up to 50%).
- Site environments may include active construction zones and outdoor conditions; personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Ability to safely climb ladders and use hand tools for hands-on tasks is essential.
