Now Hiring: Senior Control Systems Engineer (Life Sciences)
Location: Owings Mills, MD / Salary: $120K – $180K
Edison Smart is partnered with a respected engineering firm to hire a Senior Control Systems Engineer (Engineer IV) within the Control System Integration – Life Sciences Division.
This team specialises in designing, programming, and turnkey implementation of automation and process control systems, with a strong focus on PLC/HMI/DCS solutions for the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences industry.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll independently plan and lead complex control system design projects, from concept through commissioning. You’ll manage engineering activities, mentor junior team members, and act as the technical lead on high-impact automation projects.
Responsibilities:
– Execute the complete lifecycle engineering of control systems, including specification, design, testing, and commissioning
– Oversee development of construction documents and control panel designs
– Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
– Apply industry standards (ANSI, ISA, IEEE, ISPE, etc.) to design and documentation
– Coordinate design activities across disciplines and with external vendors/clients
– Direct commissioning and qualification for various automated systems
– Serve as a client-facing technical expert and project leader
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (Master’s a plus)
– 8+ years of relevant design experience in automation/control systems
– Life Sciences experience preferred; industrial, energy, manufacturing, or F&B also considered
– Strong understanding of instrumentation, electrical components, and control system architecture
– Proficiency with control systems including Rockwell (RSLogix, FactoryTalk), and familiarity with DeltaV, Siemens, or Wonderware a plus
– Working knowledge of industrial protocols (Modbus, Profibus, TCP/IP, etc.)
– Experience with P&ID development, safety circuits, hazardous area classification, and NFPA/ISA standards
– Familiarity with GMP, ISPE, and GAMP 5 guidelines highly preferred
– Strong communication and leadership skills with experience in client interaction
