
Singapore-based telecoms group Singtel[2] is launching a 5G MEC (Mobile Edge Computing) solution for enterprises with support for Microsoft Azure Stack[3].
The solution will provide the secure, low-latency performance needed for applications such as driverless vehicles, drones, robots, and VR/AR.
Bill Chang, CEO of Group Enterprise at Singtel, said:
“The trials for Singtel 5G MEC allow enterprises to enjoy the best of both worlds with Azure Stack, Microsoft’s trusted hybrid cloud solution, and Singtel 5G MEC’s ultra-low latency performance.
Our collaboration places the benefits of 5G and MEC, such as high connection speeds and low latency, in the hands of enterprises, empowering them to use, create, deploy, and scale-up new 5G solutions.
In addition, enterprises can also access new, innovative 5G solutions developed by Singtel’s and Microsoft’s ecosystems of solution providers and app developers.”
Existing users of Azure will easily be able to explore the benefits of 5G MEC and how it can improve services for their end-users. Singtel is “in discussions” to support other cloud providers.

Singtel is promising latency of under 10 milliseconds when its MEC solution is combined with connectivity from its 5G network. Trials are set to begin later this year.
