I’ve worked in the recruitment industry now for 12 months and these are the top 5 things I’ve learned so far…

  1. Be a sponge – especially in the first 6 months. Listen to people, pinch those one-liners you hear others use, be open to ideas and being influenced!
  2. Never give up – things can change, people can let you down which can be de-motivating but the key is to always pick yourself up and try again – no 2 days are ever the same!
  3. It’s rewarding – working in the recruitment industry is like a rollercoaster at times, you experience the highs and lows, but connecting with candidates and being able to place them with great clients makes it all worth it!
  4. No deal is the same – the smallest value can be the hardest one to close – there isn’t a set formula!
  5. Sometimes it’s trial and error – successes are different for everyone. How you source, how you approach candidates, how you win business etc. At the end of the day, we’re human and have our own personalities so what might work well for someone might not work for someone else. Being adaptable is key!
